It is normal if you have come across the terms “copywriting,” “content marketing,” and “content wiring” and wondered if they are really the same or not.

Instead of simply providing you with three definitions and assuming that the job is done, I decided to clarify the differences between the three in the light of their purposes!

So, if you want to get hold of the three concepts and have clear perception, it is worth reading this article to the end. That way, you can make the best decision on which form of content creation suits your particular scenario. 

Copywriting’s Purpose 

Copywiritng’s final goal is making the readers take the desired action. In many cases, the action is buying a service or product. On other occasions, it could be calling your company or filling a contact form. 

For example, the explicit content on a landing page where you try to convince your visitors to buy a particular product is an excellent example of copywriting. In essence, all the content you put on your website intending to sell your products and services is considered copywriting.

Content Marketing’s Purpose 

While copywriting is very direct and bold, content marketing is more indirect in convincing your target audience that your business is reliable. Indeed, content marketing’s goal is a long-term one: to attract new customers.  

Maybe the best example for content marketing is the blog section of your website. This is where you try to grab the opportunity to communicate with those looking for your product and service on the web, gradually build trust with them, and assure them that your product(s) can meet their needs. (of course, not all blog posts revolve around attracting new customers. Some of them are purely educational. So are they still parts of your content marketing? We will find it out in the next section.

Other examples of content marketing include videos and podcasts through which you try to communicate with your target audience how your products and services can solve their problems. 

Content Writing’s Purpose 

Content writing’s purpose is to either educate or entertain your potential audience. In accordance with marketing terms, the content writer’s main jobs include creating brand awareness and preparing product education

Now Let’s rephrase the above question, under which type of content creation do you classify an education blog? Well, I think the answer is pretty obvious already. Of course, an education blog that not only educates your readers but also entertains and inspires them is an example of content writing. 

Other examples include Email newsletters, videos, and podcasts through which you try to shape your brand’s image and build brand loyalty with your customers.

As mentioned above, content writing is the mere act of creating educational or entertaining content that can reach people through different mediums, so we focus on copywriting and content marketing from this point of the article.

This type of content that you write based on your target audience’s needs and problems is vital for turning strangers into fans and fans into customers.

Like how producing and sharing relevant and consistent blogs can build a new audience, creating videos with helpful content is a great way to attract new potential customers. 

Infographics

If some people tend to skip valuable blogs and videos, infographics that illustrate critical information 

Guides 

This informational content is longer than regular articles. You can expand your subscriber list and valuable leads by making them available to those who sign up for them.

The Importance of Using Content Writing, Content Marketing and Copywriting Together 

For your business to have an effective online presence, you need to seek a balance between the three. 

Through content writing, you create content that people learn from or simply read at leisure, which will create brand awareness for your business. You also use content marketing to turn some of your audience into your potential customers. Finally, you use copywriting as the call to action to sell your products or services, in other words turning your potential customers into buyers.
